St. Anne Catholic School holds two spelling bees annually- one for students in grades three through five, and one for students in grades six through eight. The bees are normally held in January or February.
The winners of the school's bees compete in the Archdiocesan Spelling Bee. Winners of the Archdiocesan Spelling Bee advance to compete in the Houston PBS Spelling Bee, which is televised live in the Houston area. The champion of the Houston PBS Spelling Bee wins an all-expense paid trip for two to the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
Participation in the Spelling Bee competition at all levels helps students improve spelling, increase vocabulary, and develop correct English usage that will help them throughout their lives. Bee experience also provides valuable experience in developing poise and sportsmanship which is a necessary skill for public speaking, performing arts, and athletics.
